The University of Minnesota offers three levels of admission:
Studying at the undergraduate level results in obtaining a bachelor’s degree in your choice of numerous fields of study. Undergraduate study takes place after the completion of your secondary school (high school).
Typically, these degrees take four years of full-time study to complete. Some students will begin their study at another college or university, either in the U.S. or their home country, and transfer their coursework to the University of Minnesota to complete their degree.
At the undergraduate level, you might be surprised at the amount of freedom you have in exploring various fields and choosing which field is the most interesting for you.
If you are interested in an undergraduate degree, you must apply to the University of Minnesota through the Office of Admissions.
The majority of international students at the University of Minnesota study at the graduate level. Your study at the graduate level can take place upon the completion of your undergraduate study (after earning a bachelor's degree). Graduate study can result in two main types of degrees, a master's degree or a doctoral degree (such as a Ph.D.).
In comparison to the undergraduate level, graduate study offers you greater depth of training, is specialized on a specific field or topic from the beginning, requires more self-directed learning, and is a combination of both research and coursework.
If you are interested in a graduate degree, you must apply to the University of Minnesota through the Graduate School. You will also have additional application requirements from the college or school that offers your degree program.
Professional degree programs at the University of Minnesota are designed to lead you from a degree to a particular profession. You will also find them to be more structured than academic programs. Areas of professional study include business administration, law, public health, and medicine.
If you are interested in a professional degree, you must apply to the University of Minnesota through the college or school that offers your program. Please consult the program's website for specific admissions information.
